The old man stroked his chin, then nodded, beckoning the two to follow. "Very well. Follow me then..." He started walking, his cane rapping noisily as he led them toward his modest home, the noise of cane striking cobble barely drowning out his low chuckle. "Haha! Two beautiful women! I've still got it! They'll call me 'Ladies man of the village' again once word of this gets around!" He cackled, incredibly pleased with himself, as he unlocked he door with a heavy brass key, ushering them into his home.

Viola was glad the old man didn’t seem to have hear her speak. Maybe she spoke too softly or something… Whatever. It was only a good thing.
And what Vanessa said about her being her daughter was a good thing as well. Viola appreciated it. Even if she wanted to put it aside, she was still tormented with her family and her past so at least she knew Vanessa was here.
And she was glad Vanessa was here as well for when they entered the house. Or else the old man’s words about beeing a ladies man while he was taking them to his house could have scared her. Not that she feared confronting such an old man but it could have been embarrassing.
Viola had been looking at the man very intensely since she said that prediction to see if he would do something and react badly when she heard him say his remark about their beauty but she thought he only said that for fun, he was not dangerous. He was a good man only happy to have beautiful women in his house, without having any perverted intentions (except maybe to brag about it later like he said but Viola didn’t care about that. It wasn't important and probably not serious). He wasn't the perverted doge. But she was still glad to have Vanessa with her since she was feeling kind of shy anyway.
It was somehow embarrassing but also pleasing to be called beautiful yet Viola was not pleased with her own appearance. She wasn't feeling beautiful and thought once more that she would have to get some better clothes soon. She hated her bonnet that she was still keeping to hide her white hair and she hated the plain ugly long skirt made with some cheap fabric. The only thing that was fine was her blouse, the nightgown she had when she woke up in Venice. It made an elegant blouse but was contrasting with the rest...
Once inside, still holding her orb tightly while it was hidden in the fabrics she previously ripped from her nightgown, she looked around while wondering who would destroy the house first : the doge or Soul Calibur?
She also didn’t see the man's son and guessed he must be hiding for now since the events occured not long ago. The guards may come back anytime…

"Haha! Two beautiful women! I've still got it! They'll call me 'Ladies man of the village' again once word of this gets around!"
Vanessa scoffs in an amused manner. If she wanted to. She could of shoved her scythe into the old man's back. But since he was offering them both a place to sleep. She didn't care. But she was embarrassed that he called her beautiful. She never did like that. Beauty is not the main factor. It is about love.
"Viola. How about me and you head to bed." The witch says to the seer. While whispering another sentence in her ear. "Before I rip this bastardo to pieces about what he said."

"Viola. How about me and you head to bed."
Viola who was lost in her many thoughts, got surprised.
"Already?"
Then Vanessa whispered another sentence in her ear. "Before I rip this bastardo to pieces about what he said."
Viola was even more surprised. She whispered back:
"He was only joking. Or complimenting us. And I think he may explain more about what happened here."
She knew Vanessa would not rip him for real but she should not be so angry. It was only a compliment. Maybe they should speak more about the region and the doge with him.
But she was still wondering if Soul Edge wished for them to ally with that doge... She had dismissed the story that he could be her father since she didn't want him as father and he probably didn't want her as daughter but somehow he was serving Soul Edge in some way and maybe since Soul Edge wanted them to serve it, it would want them to ally with him or at least, not confront him...
Viola had said she would help against Soul Calibur but she didn't intend to ally with Soul Edge for other things. Yet would the sword be angry that they somehow oppose the doge who seemed to be on Soul Edge's side? She feared Soul Edge like she also wondered if that sword really was her only hope of getting back her past. Maybe she should prepare to fight both those swords... They both were bad for them... Like for the peasants here for whom everything seemed bad. She then asked the old man:
"So... do you think the soldiers will come back?"

"Eh? The soldiers? Mmm. Likely. The my son and the prisoners they came to execute are all long gone, and the one who freed them is gone as well, though."
"And you think they'll leave peacefully after that?"
A younger woman with large, round glasses and black braids dressed in the black and white frills of a maid emerges from the kitchen, carrying a heavy pot of stew, which she places on a table set for two. "I told you, we should have left with your son. I can't believe you.." She blinks, staring in surprise at the two travelers. "Eh?"
The old man coughs. "Guests for the night, Adele. Set out a few more bowls, if you would?" He gives Viola and Vanessa a quick smile. "My caretaker. Cesare, my son, hired her to look after me once I got too old to work." He flops heavily into an old stuffed armchair with a grunt, pulling it up to the table with a few pulls. "Please, sit down, eat with me. We haven't had visitors in a long while, I'd feel a bad host if you went straight to bed."

"Grazie. I would be honored to eat a meal before I went to sleep." The witch says to the old man with a gentle smile on her lips. Vanessa sets down her scythe next to her chair and she gets some of the soup. Smelling the flavor that runs through the meal. "Lets enjoy."

"I told you, we should have left with your son. I can't believe you.." She blinks, staring in surprise at the two travelers. "Eh?"
Viola was also surprised by that young woman’s presence yet she didn’t show it. But she thought the old man had only his son who was gone now. The old man presented her :
"My caretaker. Cesare, my son, hired her to look after me once I got too old to work." He flops heavily into an old stuffed armchair with a grunt, pulling it up to the table with a few pulls. "Please, sit down, eat with me. We haven't had visitors in a long while, I'd feel a bad host if you went straight to bed."
Viola was indeed hungry, so looking at Vanessa, she waited for her to accept before she would go to the table.
"Grazie. I would be honored to eat a meal before I went to sleep."
And Vanessa went to the table.
"Lets enjoy."
Viola followed Vanessa to the table and sat beside her. But before she took her spoon, something suddenly hit her : What the old man said… "…and the one who freed them is gone as well, though." Setsuka was her name… Viola suddenly realized something. She turned and told Vanessa with some worry:
"Maman… You are specifically in danger… The one who freed the prisoners was a Japanese woman. When the soldiers will come back, the peasants being for the most part cowards and already fearing you as stranger, will accuse you of being that woman so they can be left in peace and not punished by the doge. They won’t care if you are the real responsible, they just want to get rid of the soldiers they fear and save their skins…"
She turned to Adele and told her in a serious way:
"You are right. You both should flee."
Nothing good was coming and the danger would probably come fast… But as Vanessa was always ready to protect her, Viola would protect Vanessa in everyway she could. Beside she probably also would be arrested but she wanted to protect her adoptive mother more that anything. Yet the old man and his caretaker were in danger as well since they hosted them and the old man's son already was a 'criminal deserter'.

The old man waved a slice of bread dismissively at viola as Adele demurely filled his bowl with stew. "Well, I wouldn't have you two linger, certainly, but even as fast as those streak-of-piss soldiers where running I don't think they'll have had time to reach the capital, file a report, and have another squad dispatched here just yet. And even if you did go running off in a panic, what if you blundered into them in the dark?" He nodded to Adele as she filled his glass with spiced wine and took a pinch of mixed herbs from a small clay jar on the table and sprinkled them over his meal. "In either event, I'm too damned old and too damned poor to go running off across the country at my age." Adele gave him a sharp look as she served the two witches, giving them bread and stew with fresh spices, filling their cups with wine. "You should stop pretending that you aren't afraid of dying! Before you see your son again? This kingdom is falling into darkness, but you won't do anything but watch it slide into ruin?" She yelps slightly, clutching her hand, having burned herself on the hot ladle while serving Vanessa. "S-sorry..." She abruptly ended her rant, serving the rest of the meal in silence, only speaking up again when she got to fill Viola's cup, her eyes going from her girlish figure to her white hair. "Erm. Ma'am, I can get your daughter some milk..?"

"Erm. Ma'am, I can get your daughter some milk..?"
Vanessa eats the stew and smiles. "Yes. My little girl needs her milk. So she can be so strong like her mother." The witch says to the girl in a peaceful tone. She jokes with Viola since she cares about the seer like her own child. While they eat Vanessa thinks about what Michael said to her 7 years ago. About feeling the same thing he has. "What does he mean?" The witch says to herself.

"Well, I wouldn't have you two linger, certainly, but even as fast as those streak-of-piss soldiers where running I don't think they'll have had time to reach the capital, file a report, and have another squad dispatched here just yet. And even if you did go running off in a panic, what if you blundered into them in the dark?"
Viola outlined a smile imagining the soldiers running away in panic. She didn’t like those tyrannic soldiers so it must have been funny. She then noticed that Adele was staring at her.
"Erm. Ma'am, I can get your daughter some milk..?"
Viola wondered : I look that young? She didn’t get to look at herself too often and it was hard to have a clear idea about how young or old she looked. Beside it was better that she looked as young as possible since Vanessa, who was supposed to be her mother, already looked young.
But she really was wondering what was her age now. What happened to her? She tried to remember the events in Venice. She woke up in a bed… In a luxurious room, wearing an elegant nightgown… She was wounded. In fact, she was not wounded very much but had been wounded and was wearing some old blood stained bandages… The fact nobody had changed her bandages in a while it seemed, made her think she was not taken care of properly and she feared having been wounded by those who kept her there. Mostly when she had that vision of her orb, calling her, telling her to get out, and she went outside to find it… But… what was that house? Why was she wounded?
Trying to recall the events before, Viola only got some headache. Then feeling bad about her past again she angrily told herself that she had to let go of that old life that she didn’t even remember. A stupid old life that she shouldn’t care about. What mattered was now or the future. Hoping to find some parents or family was useless. Hope only brings disappointment.
"Yes. My little girl needs her milk. So she can be so strong like her mother."
Somehow Vanessa’s comment got her out of her bad mood and she outlined a smile once more. Vanessa was so motherly…
But she then turned serious once more and told the old man :
"Merci monsieur for reassuring us about the time it will take for them to come back. How far is the capital?"
She then adressed Adele.
"If you burned yourself too much, put your hand in cold water or put some white from an egg. If you had some aloe vera it would be good but I doubt you have that. Merci for the milk."

"I wouldn't worry too much. Adele is pretty much indestructable. She needs to be, clumsy as she is." Adele shoots the old man a dirty look, grumbling under her breath as she finishes serving the meal, pouring Viola a glass of milk before sitting down and beginning to eat her own meal. "How far is the capital? We're on the very outskirts of the kingdom.. but it's only a day or two by horseback. More on foot."

Two days by horse or more by foot? That was good, thought Viola. They would indeed be left in peace and since the frontier was so close, the son must be safe as well now. The old man must be relieved, though Viola would like to look in her orb to know more about the future of the son, the old man, Adele and all the village but not in front of those people. Later.
So Viola began eating her meal. But as she ate, she looked at Vanessa; her foster mother seemed in deep thoughts... Viola wondered about what but Vanessa seemed to have a lot to think about...
Then her gaze went to the cup of spiced wine Vanessa was having. The seer thought she must already have drank wine since the color seemed very familiar… even with her young age, she tought she had seen that reddish liquid very often… But whatever. To have drunk wine was not a so important detail of her old life… Viola forgot about it and took a sip of her milk.

"How far is the capital? We're on the very outskirts of the kingdom.. but it's only a day or two by horseback. More on foot."
Vanessa looks up from her spiced wine. "Two days? Grazie. We can work with that when we get horses. I need to stop in Florence soon. I forgot something there." The witch says to them both. Then she drinks more of her wine. Savoring the flavor that was from the liquid. Then she begins thinking again about Michael's words. "What did he mean?" The witch says to herself.

As she kept eating, Viola was still thinking about Soul Edge and its promise to help her. Would the evil sword be able to and hold on to its word?
She was malfested, so she was tied to the sword, Soul Edge may indeed be the key to her past… but as to trust it… maybe it even was because of Soul Edge that she lost her memory…
And about destroying Soul Calibur, was it so necessary? Soul Calibur hated malfested but what if it could purify her? Maybe she would gain her memory back…
But Viola mostly had the feeling Soul Calibur would want her destruction without any compromise… She really had the feeling Soul Edge was not lying when warning her about the treatment the spirit sword would give her.
In the case that she decided to fight against Soul Calibur, she knew that the spirit sword would surely come here sooner or later to destroy that Soul Edge infected kingdom and its doge so after that, it would be weakened and then maybe she could try to destroy it… Both the doge and Soul Calibur had to be destroyed, so if they weakened each other…
But when will it come? Maybe she should hasten things… Somehow… But she had a vision of the village… the destruction… This war would be bad for them… But no war would be bad for them as well since they would be stuck with the doge.
She then adressed Vanessa :
"Maman… So you intend to go to the capital before Florence?"

"Maman… So you intend to go to the capital before Florence?"
Vanessa lifts her head up and smiles. "Yes. I plan to go to Florence. But when we rise in the morning." The witch says while snapping out of her trance like state. Still wondering about Michael's words. Why is it haunting her?
