Setsuka looked at the soldiers retreating while sheathing her blade. She then looked at the prisonners: sadly, three were dead. At least the others had survived. She adressed them:
"We don't have much time. You will have to flee before they come back."
She then continued adressing some of the ex-prisonners.
"Who is that doge? How come he has a malfested working for him?"

Most of the prisoners heeded her suggestion with alacrity, pausing only to use the weapons of the fallen soldiers to cut their bonds before turning to leave the village, stumbling along the road out of the village as fast as their legs would take them. A few, where willing to answer her questions.
"Doge Adamo Balsamo is our lord, milady. He rules this kingdom... Though we are far enough from the city that we are largely spared his attention." The prison grinned ruefully and rubbed the back of his neck for a moment, recalling the rope that had been binding him only a short while ago. "Well, largely, anyway. The Doge is a tyrant. Cruel. But he is terrifying, and powerful... his soldiers obey him without question, and it's said that he keeps terrible beasts and monsters in his dungeons."

"Doge Adamo Balsamo is our lord, milady. He rules this kingdom... Though we are far enough from the city that we are largely spared his attention."
Setsuka hoped the Doge would not send some men back to the village or at least will leave the villagers alone to go after the escapees and her. If the village was tranquil most of the time, it should remain so. But she mostly hoped he would do nothing which was probably unlikely. The man continued speaking.
"Well, largely, anyway. The Doge is a tyrant. Cruel. But he is terrifying, and powerful... his soldiers obey him without question, and it's said that he keeps terrible beasts and monsters in his dungeons."
"Beasts and monsters?" Asked Setsuka with surprise.
Setsuka really wondered how much that man was involved with Soul Edge… What can do terrible beasts and monsters better than that evil sword? He already had a malfested among his guards… As she and the man answering her were going away from the village, she asked him :
"What is the name of his city? Do you know of people opposing him?"
Even if she asked the question, Setsuka didn't really believe this man would know about opposants to the Doge, he came from a small village, not from where opposition may arise... But she thought someone should do something about it yet she couldn’t do it alone. She didn’t know if those men would do something against the Doge, they may not be fighters and may fear for them or their families. If they didn’t want to help or could not, she should try to seek help against that Soul Edge servant. Some opposition or someone who fought the evil sword.
Yet everyone she knew who fought Soul Edge were in Asia… But she heard of some in Europe even if she didn’t know them… She should look for them… There was the holder of Soul Calibur and previously Soul Edge, Siegfried Schtauffen, there was also the malfested Frenchman Raphael Sorel though even if she knew he knew much about the swords, she didn’t know if he would help or be an enemy… He had a daughter, Amy if she recalled, probably a young adult as Edgemaster said but she didn’t know if she was evil or not. Maybe they were allied with that man… She had also heard about Ivy, an alchemist with a magical sword but she didn’t know where she was and the woman was supposed to have served Nightmare so she was as trustworthy as Raphael. Zasalamel was another of these knowledgeable persons but she didn’t know either where he could be or if he would help… Algol was another mysterious powerful man… From all those, she thought maybe Siegfried Schtauffen was the best ally she could get… Yet all the others seemed to have much knowledge of the swords while Siegfried may be only a fighter, yet he did experience the effects of the two swords, she should not underestimate his knowledge… She then asked the man :
"Have you ever heard about Soul Edge? Oh! By the way, my name is Setsuka. Nice to meet you."

The prisoner nodded. "Yes, monsters... well, it's only a rumor. They say that the castle has many levels of dungeons and catacombs beneath it. The doge imprisons those that displease him... as well as monsters, and maidens who reject him."
He glanced over his shoulder at is retreating allies, suddenly anxious to be away. "I dare say there must be those who oppose him, but I don't know who they are or how to contact them." He started to move as if to leave, but stopped at her question. " Soul Edge? The legendary evil sword? I... I don't know anything more than the next person." He shook his head.
"Milady... I don't mean to sound ungrateful, but I'm leaving this accursed kingdom. If you are wise, you will do the same!" The prisoner turned with a grimace and started to limp after the rest of the group, leaving Setsuka standing alone in the aftermath of the battle.

"Milady... I don't mean to sound ungrateful, but I'm leaving this accursed kingdom. If you are wise, you will do the same!"
"Yes, of course..." replied Setsuka who wondered if she should follow them to protect them. But then she decided not to since they was better escape in small groups or alone. They must not get noticed by the guards and in her kimono, Setsuka thought she was quite flashy... She would have to change... But for now she let go the man and went her own way in the woods.
Yet what the man told her troubled her: Many levels of dungeons and catacombs? And he put any who displeases him? That Doge should go there himself, he was the monster!
Setsuka decided to leave the place for now but she could come back dressed as a European, maybe dye her hair and the guards probably won't recognize her... She could spy and learn about what that man was doing...
But for the 'spying' mission, she wondered if she should come with someone who knows about Soul Edge or alone and then get allies... Whatever. For now, she will leave the kingdom...

After having left Germany where Viola took some sausage recipes for when she will meet again the young man who asked her for that in Venice, both the witches headed for Italy. But they didn't go in Venice since Vanessa wanted to go somewhere else and beside she knew she would meet him another time.
Their feet took them to some kingdom who strangely seemed invaded by evil energy. Evil Soul Edge energy. Viola wondered if she would meet Soul Calibur here since the spirit sword was destined to go where Soul Edge was. The seer knew Soul Calibur was now in Greece as she had seen in a vision yet she didn't dare go directly in Greece. She wanted to meet the sword for many reasons but also feared it since she would probably fight it.
So somehow, she told herself she would meet Soul Calibur one day anyway. And be more prepared then. But she now wondered what was that Soul Edge energy staining the place. It wasn't the evil sword itself but there was something going on here...
Since she woke up in Italy, she wondered if she had anything to do with that place. Maybe she left here to go north in Venice and somehow something happened... but maybe not. Even if she was malfested, she wasn't tied to every places corrupted by Soul Edge... She asked Vanessa:
"Do you feel the Soul Edge energy around here?"

Vanessa's presence in Italy was known well when she was a young child. Since her father and mother moved from Japan to Florence when they were very young. But seeing this village has something strange floating around the air. Almost if Soul Edge's presence was tied to her.
Then she heard Viola. "Do you feel the Soul Edge energy around here?"
"I do not Viola. But Michael's energy might be different then Soul Edge's." The witch says to the seer in a calm tone.

The presence of the two young women could not be unnoticed in a town as small as this, and the pair drew questioning, sometimes fearful glances from the peasants, who quickly averted their gazes or outright fled, quickly entering their homes and shutting the doors behind them until Viola and Vanessa where well past. Though the sun was scarcely setting, the sound of birds in trees and the smell of fresh bread being baked wafting through the air comfortingly, something unsettling was obviously afoot, a vague feeling of unease or corruption of the spirit settled in the area. The only clue to the source of this strange miasma was the grunts of men laboring late in the day, picks and shovels biting into the ground. Six new graves where being dug in this little village, six corpses laid in a line and shrouded in linen, awaiting their final burial.

Viola was not surprised when people seemed to fear them. It did happen in some other places as well since they both were witches even if they did not yell it to everyone but with the presence of the evil sword around here, people may have more obvious reasons to avoid them.
So Viola knew she would not offer to read their future or else she would probably be burnt at the stake tonight. So she shut up, tied her white hair while she put her ugly bonnet on to hide them better since it was not normal to have white hair at her age (she would have to buy something else less ugly soon, like for that ugly long skirt that she always wore when entering villages to not offend anyone…). She still didn’t know her age but she knew she was no more than a young woman probably, maybe not even an adult yet. Feeling young and inexperienced, she was glad to have her ‘mother’ beside her even if she still wondered who was her real family, if she had one.
She and Vanessa walked in the town until they reached the cemetary where some men were digging while six corpses awaited in silence to be buried. Viola stopped and looked at the corpses from some distance. She muttered :
"They are not dead because of sickness but because of Soul Edge. Not the sword directly but the influence. The evil sword is slowly killing everybody around here. Even their corrupted ruler."
Viola then had a vision of the Doge; a fat man with glasses and a top hat, holding an axe. Viola tried to remember if she knew that man, it seemed not… He must not be part of her past… But she did have a vision of him… so maybe… Yet Viola could sense he was deeply corrupted. He was a dangerous man. She and Vanessa were in danger around here. Both by the villagers who feared them and were still in shock of those last death and by the Doge who may want to hurt them as well if he was not an acquaintance…

Vanessa looks at the dead. Despite her white dress and dark hair, she covers it with her hood that she had on before. To decrease the suspicion. But her scythe is a different problem.
"These dead bodies. They have a certain aura around them.. Soul Edge is killing this village. Why is he though.." Vanessa asks herself while wondering about this village's past. Seeing if something with Soul Edge brought this village such turmoil.

"Soul Edge? Did you say 'Soul Edge', young lady?"
An older man cautiously approached the two witches, bowed by age and walking using a cane. He looked between them warily, then nodded his head.
"A woman named Setsuka came asking about that sword only a few days ago... And left those six dead men in her wake. So I ask, what business do you have with that demon sword?"

Viola looked at the old man for a second before answering.
"We have no intention of hurting you, monsieur. We were only noting that the evil sword had caused damage here."
Not knowing if she would talk too much by adding something about Soul Edge, malfestation or their doge and not really good to lie, Viola shut up and looked at Vanessa for the rest while holding her still covered orb so that the man did not notice what it really was. She thought that she looked strange holding that bundle of clothes but whatever. Indeed she and Vanessa had some embarrassing things to hold...

Vanessa turns to the old man and gives a small smile. "Setsuka? Never heard of her. But she killed those men? Un vero peccato. Ma la vita è la vita, la morte è la morte." She says to the man. Not caring about her outfit. She could be nude and she wouldn't care. But it was her weapon that was worrying her. Since her weapon is bigger then Viola's little orb. But she had no control over it.
Vanessa then turns to Viola and whispers. "This village has been hit hard with Soul Edge. Should we try to help?"

The young seer whispered back:
"Getting too close to the sun may be dangerous. Yet all life needs the sun... Okay then, if you wish"
Viola was not really enthousiastic about helping some villagers who would probably burn them at the stake after or chase them away like monsters.
But somehow she was curious about that doge... He was probably malfested or something and she had begun to have some feeling that her family must be malfested... Or maybe she wished they were instead of having a family who got rid of her for her malfestation. But somehow, she thought her father must be malfested... Yet it probably wasn't that man... But whatever, she was curious so she agreed to Vanessa's proposition even if she didn't really know what they would or could do... Soul Edge asked for their help before... But only against Soul Calibur...

The old man shrugged at Vanessa. "Not all of them. And she saved others, including my son, from execution." He glanced over his shoulder, taking note of a few other peasants and their obvious attempts to avoid the two strangers. "The others are foolish and mistrustful. They fear that a stranger standing up to the doge will bring misfortune to our little village in time. And they believe Soul Edge is a legend, even though it has only been a handful of years since it last ravaged these lands."
He blows out a weary breath. "The sun is setting. Do you two intend to travel on during the night? I fear you will find few willing to shelter you here."
