Post by Ashlotte Maedel on Jul 17, 2012 4:32:21 GMT
Name: Ashlotte Maedel
Age: The number of rotations of the sun and earth is important? How strange.
Gender: The master's writings indicate a "maiden" is female. Is this unit a maiden...?
Fighting Style: Gyulkus (Modified from Astaroth's fighting style)
Weapon: Ashlotte's weapon is smaller and more refined-looking than Astaroth's gigantic axe, but no less deadly; it has a stylized axe blade at the head that resembles an Iron Maiden, while the butt is equipped with a large, sharp spear blade. The shaft is red and very thin, but the weapon is deceptively sturdy and heavy for its size and shape.
Weapon Name: Krnielk
Place of Birth: Unknown (ruins of a nameless, hidden temple of Fygul Cestemus)
Appearance:
Alliance: Neutral Alliance
Personality: Ashlotte was designed with no purpose or being beyond her function as the cult's "executioner doll"; until very recently, nothing existed in her world but the desire to slay Astaroth and return his body to her masters, and she had no emotions or thoughts to go with this directive.
Since venturing out into the world, however, Ashlotte's empty, mechanical nature has changed, and upon reactivating herself, she is now able to exist without a directive purely on a spark her creators never intended for her to have. Thus reanimated, Ashlotte has found herself in an awkward place, still thinking like a machine but able to operate on a much higher intellectual and emotional level than before. Ashlotte's original indifference to the world has been replaced by a childlike curiousity; everything is at once amazing and confusing to her, including the ability to be amazed or confused. Ashlotte doesn't understand how or why anything works, herself included, but is filled with the desire to comprehend this confusing new world. As a result, the emotionless doll now acts more like an extremely polite, earnest, and naive young woman that has questions about everything and no instincts for interacting with the world and people in it. As she is now, Ashlotte is more likely to walk headfirst through walls to get places than use a door because she knows a straight line is the fastest route, and doesn't understand tact; instead, she is honest to a fault and will respond to things exactly how she sees or feels about them, not considering how others might react. Ashlotte has no sense of humor and a fuzzy understanding of falsehood and fiction; to her, the idea that something that isn't real can be important is a troubling one. Ashlotte's main passion now that she has no directive is to figure out her purpose without the pursuit of Astaroth to define her.
Background/History: [SCIV]Fygul Cestemus had been pushed to the brink of annihilation by Astaroth, with the cult's survivors doing their best to preserve their lives. Eventually, two priests who survived the struggles came up with a plan of taking down Astaroth. Since attempts to control the golem, who was created based on a human, all ended in failure, they decided to make a soldier that has no soul.
Eventually, she, or "it" as it isn't a living thing, was completed. An artistic mass of gears and shafts locked together in an intricate and arcane configuration, what the world would call a "machine", made this executioner doll tick, while features of unparalleled grace masked the mechanical components within. However, although she could talk and act like a normal human, she had no emotions and was set on her goal of eradicating Astaroth.
Given the name Ashlotte Maedel, she emerged beneath the sunlight, sending tremors through the hall-collapsed underground shrine, making it crumble into ruin. She was not distracted by the destruction; she simply set off across the desert to complete her appointed task.
Ashlotte was originally tasked with retrieving Astaroth, but since she didn't get there in time before Maxi took care of him, she just settled for his core.[/SCIV]
After returning Astaroth's core to the cult, Ashlotte's one function was fulfilled, and her creators had no further interest in giving their creation instruction. Instead, they deactivated Ashlotte and left her to gather dust as they moved on to work on creating an army of new, loyal Astaroths to serve them; after all, a mere clockwork construct could never match the full potential of the Black Giant of Ares.
Ashlotte accepted being wound down and forgotten without complaint; her directive had been fulfilled, and her masters had given her no further reason to live. Without Astaroth to hunt, it seemed right to Ashlotte that she be deactivated.
However, even a mind and heart of metal and wheels cannot remain pristine and cold after walking so long under the sun. Without anyone, Ashlotte least of all, realizing it, her journey to find Astaroth had changed her, and as she resigned herself to the long sleep of deactivation until she was one day needed again, a single, treacherous word crept into Ashlotte's mind.
Why?
Perhaps it was Hephaestus, admiring Ares's discarded executioner doll and preparing for the inevitable confrontation between their mortal agents, who breathed a spark of life into Ashlotte and allowed her to reactivate herself on pure will. Perhaps Ashlotte's creators had simply designed a machine too complicated to shut down at will, or perhaps the journey to find Astaroth had simply exposed Ashlotte to enough mystic power that the tiniest glimmer of a soul existed in the copper gears bathed in sacred oil within her. Whatever the reason, Ashlotte opened her eyes unbidden and walked again into the sun, not understanding why she lived and moved on her own but determined to find the answers.
Relations:
Fygul Cestemus | Creators
Astaroth | Former Nemesis
Ares | Former Master (Unaware of this)
Hephaestus | Patron (Unaware of this)
Additional Information:
-Despite her small size, Ashlotte weighs 223 kg. This was intentional to make her body extremely dense and difficult for even a monster like Astaroth to throw around. Ashlotte can break someone's bones just by falling over on them, but her immense density is normally used to let her plow through walls like they're not even there.
-Ashlotte experiences emotions, including fear, but not sensations like pain or physical pleasure. Her lack of understanding of the world means that her fear response is very limited at the moment, however, and the prospect of harm does not intimidate her.
-In-RP, Ashlotte's black "dress" is simply shaped metal designed to give her extra protection, particularly around her midsection where most of the gears that help her move are located. While it is very securely attached, Ashlotte can shed it if needed, simply resembling an all-white ball-and-socket-joint doll when all attachments are removed. This could conceivably allow Ashlotte to wear human clothes, but she's a little fuzzy on why she would ever need to.
