So I downloaded the Japanese Beta and it's only running from 11/14 to 11/18. I decided to get it since they aren't releasing the Beta overseas. So, I might as well post what I've done so far as a reminder of what's possibly to come.
DISCLAIMER: I don't know any Japanese at all.
The modes are World Map, Character, Store, and Ally. Apparently there is one mode that was locked and I can't read it.
World Map feels like quick battle mode. You basically go onto a map and you choose which set of opponents you want to fight. If you want to go to other places on the map, you may need to get something called AP.
Character is basically character creation. They really trimmed down the customization options. I'm guessing it's the stream line the choice for the stats for equipment.
Store is basically the PSN store where you can buy Continue Tickets for when you lose and AP. Yes, it is as stupid and dreaded as it sounds. What's worse is that once you buy something, you can't buy it again. Yea, real fucking smart move Namco if you have a time limited Beta. Let's go limit your play testing!
Ally is where you can download support characters on the internet. I believe you can summon them using A+B+K or R2 on default, but I haven't used it yet.
So onto the combat. The meter seems to have moved down to the bottom and it only fills up one time. This meter uses your "Weapon Art" which is the Critical Edge of the game. The input for that is A+B or R1 on default. Siegfried Requiem had some sort of guard breaking uppercut. Yay?
Elements are introduced. Red is fire, Blue is Water, Green is Wind. I still need to figure out what white and purplish black is. I'm betting it's light and dark. Elements are placed on your weapon and your armor and weapons actually have two element slots, so different attacks can use different elements. So far, the elemental cycle is Fire beats Wind, Wind beats Water, and Water beats Fire.
When you fight CPUs, sometimes their health bar changes from blue to orangery red. I'm guessing it's because their armor element was fire. When this happens, the time suddenly changes and within that time limit, you have to reduce that new bar. If successful, you break their armor and you get new equipment. Breaking their armor or not, their health bar goes back to normal.
What's probably the worst sin I've seen so far is I haven't found a way to change characters yet so I'm stuck with Siegfried. EDIT: Well, nevermind, I found it. It's the very last option on the character menu. Yay.
