Nightmare stood alone in the large, empty, partially destroyed throne room, the place where he'd first reawakened 3 years ago.
"It's raining..." the knight said, breaking the long silence that had been with him since he left the shattered remains of the village on the outskirts of the castle town.
Silence fell upon him once more, except for the drops of rain that dripped from the ceiling, as the red haired youth began to reflect upon the recent events of his life. Should he have returned here to wait for a master that would probably kill him for, not only failing his mission, but aiding the escape of the prisoners? Why could he not have just stayed with Pyyrha and Amy? Why couldn't he have perished with Katrine?
"Why?" Nightmare spoke once more, again breaking the heavy silence that threatened to swallow him whole.
The azure knight began to grow angry as was made apparent by the crimson aura which swirled menacingly around him once more.
"...Is this...my fate?!" the sound of tearing flesh resounded throughout the throne room as the knights hand corrupted into its hideous true form.
"Yulie said I still had a chance but...!" Nightmare's aura flared like a wildfire as he began to tear through the room, tossing large pieces of rubble about as if it were nothing.
"...What chance could I possibly have?!" taking hold of one of the swords that lay strewn about, Nightmare began to stab himself, over and over again until his abdomen was a mess of torn fabric, blood and his own flesh.
"I feel no pain! I feel no sorrow! I can't even end it!!!" Nightmare threw the sword and collapsed to his hands and knees, his demonic aura slowly dying down as he huffed trying to catch his breath.
"...I...I am..."

The day had all but ended when Nightmare opened his eyes. The sound of rain beating against the castle exterior was the only sound the knight heard within the large, empty throne room.
"What am I to do with this silence?" the red haired youth spoke as he rolled onto his back and stared silently at the ceiling.
The azure knight had decided to haunt Osrtheinburg Castle until his master had returned.
"He'll be angry, I'm sure. Perhaps he'll see fit to destroy me?..." the thought of oblivion forced a small smile to cross Nightmare's face as he lay in a pool of his own blood.
"...Maybe I can annoy master into ending my cursed existence?" the azure knight chuckled.

Nightmare could suddenly sense someone in the vicinity of the castle. Someone...entering the castle town. 3-no-4! Maybe more...
"Perhaps I should go and greet my guests..." the azure knight muttered as he slowly made his way to his feet, dried blood clinging to his armor.
Long, blood red tresses cascaded down the knight's back, swaying gently with each step as he walked toward the entrance to the very empty, very silent throne room. Suddenly, something glinting in the shadows of the entrance caught Nightmare's eye. Moving closer, the red haired youth's eyes narrowed as he'd finally been able to discern what it was. The shiny, object which caught the knight's attention was his helmet.
"...Well, I suppose I cannot fight my fate, now can I?" the azure knight spoke while picking up the piece of armor.
The azure knight's red eyes began to burn as he silently made his way through the ruins of the dark and empty castle, his helmet tightly clutched in his bloody hand.

I have done a number of extremely stupid things in my life, but I'm beginning to wonder if this is my crowning achievement thus far.
So ran Ishimaru's thoughts as he left a cool, lightly damp cloth on the forehead of his unconscious companion and leaned against the walls that seemed to growl with evil power. His Shuriken certainly didn't seem happy with his decision to stay in Ostrheinberg, as it had been letting out a low thrum since they'd stopped here.
In the wake of his battle with Astaroth, Ishimaru had grabbed Tira before anyone could reclaim her and rabbited, finding an isolated corner of the castle to hide out without moving too far away from his target.
He'd come here fully expecting another battle to near-death with Tira, and here he was looking after the girl in the wake of the wounds Astaroth had inflicted and hoping against all observable evidence that she wouldn't repay his kindness with a stab in the neck.
No...I need her to get better. Nobody's going to be able to tell me more about what's really going on with Soul Edge than she can. He reminded himself. I came here to get information from her. That's all.
Still, he watched Tira curiously; he'd never seen the girl hold still this long at a time, and it had been a while since he'd been this close to her and not covered in blood.

It wasn't until she unintentionally shifted her weight that she realised, 'Oh God, that...hurt a lot more than it should have.' Had she fallen asleep oddly? Nope. That didn't seem right.
Wait...why the hellwas her back hurting so damn much....?
The young girl took a deep breath as she squinted against the light that assaulted her amethyst eyes, opening them from her prior unconsciousness. With that, it all came back to her.
Astaroth.
Damn it.
It hurt, but she could only slap her palm against her face and mutter a "Godfuckingdamnit" in response to recalling her defeat at the hands of that oafish golem. She'd never let herself live it down.
However, something else felt off...
How did she get back into the castle anyway? This wasn't where she normally slept either...
Against her better judgement, she peeked between her index and middle finger and glanced to her side.
Oh joy.
She couldn't even help her subconscious reaction to leap backwards to the wall at discovering her...room mate...steeling herself against the now very obvious wounds at her back - her eyes searching wildly around the room for Eiserne.

"I took the liberty of keeping sharp things away from you while you were asleep. You understand how it is." Ishimaru said, forcing himself to look nonchalant as he watched Tira to hide how her awakening had startled him.
I'd forgotten how quickly she could walk or sleep off injuries...I still think there must be some kind of magic in her endurance.
"So..." Ishimaru cocked his head. "If you want to fist-fight until our wounds open back up, that's OK with me, but I'd really rather postpone our next grudge match until I've asked some questions, if it's all the same to you."

Tira fought back a childish hiss at the Asian man who sat on the floor across from her, acting as if this entire situation wasn't tension-laden. His words about keeping Eiserne purposely away from her did not help. Maybe he left her all alone outside...for anyone to pick up...No. He wouldn't, right? She had to put those thoughts aside; anxiety that matched an individual losing a loved one brewing, not that she could identify them as such. Tira would assume it to be anger.
Her wounds would not allow her to act out in such anger though. Instead, she merely glared at him and huffed in a bratty manner.
"You can drop dead."

"You know, usually someone thanks me when I risk life and limb to save them." Ishimaru sighed, but his nonchalant air cracked a little, and he was worried Tira would read weakness in the tension that filled his face as he met her eyes again, hearing movement not far off.
I don't know if I've got very long...
"We're not even anymore, anyway. You ought to save the attitude for when we're square again." He said, trying to bait Tira into a more talkative mood.

"Well how about you go and throw yourself out the window so I can save myself the hassle of killing you later," Tira hissed, drawing her knees up to her chest, biting back the sharp pain the movement caused.
She eyed the shuriken in the corner, the knives at the ninja's belt...
However, her ring blade was nowhere to be seen; not in this room anyway. He didn't...he wouldn't!

"I've never been one to jump at the thought of suicide. If you wanted me to do the work for you, you really ought to have picked a samurai." Ishimaru sighed, standing up.
"I liked to think we understood each other a little better after the tower. Was that just me? You don't seem very happy to see me again." He added, feigning a hurt expression.

Tira pouted, her lack of empathy mockingly painted on her face.
"We all know you did it so you can get in cahoots with Soul Edge - also so you can tell your wench of a Mother that you never hurt a girl when you finally reunite in Hell. It's written all over your face. ~"
Tira drew her clawed gauntlets from her eyes down to her cheeks in mock tears, "It's so sad! For Ishi to be my knight in shining...ninja robes?" The girl said this with a giggle, her mood lightening up at the mere image of such.

"I've hurt plenty of girls in my life. I like to think only ones that deserved it, though." Ishimaru replied, not losing his cool. "Think of me what you will, but I meant what I said then. Nothing's changed since then." Ishimaru stood up slowly.
"And really, does everything need to be about Soul Edge? The only thing I want with that sword is the trick to destroying it." Ishimaru sighed. "And I thought someone found that, but lo and behold, I hear the Evil Sword is back in power and Nightmare rides again. So I guess the fight that interrupted us last time didn't count for much."
Ishimaru shrugged, spreading his arms.
"Some idiot has to play the knight while a fire-breathing dragon holds sway over the land. Why not me, I should ask?"
Tira likely had a good three dozen comebacks to that, but amusing her with them would keep her talking and maybe let her personality swing enough for Ishimaru to get a foothold in the conversation.

He's being stupidly optimistic again. You handle this before I vomit.
"Because, quite frankly, you suck at it, Ishi." Tira giggled, her happier half coming through at the ninja's mention of fairytales. She loved them! Especially when the dragon ate everyone.
Tira cocked her head to the side, pigtails flowing, "Where's Eiserne? Did you keep her safe? I'm going to be annoyed if you didn't."

"Strangely, my moral shortcomings never sound that bad when it's you calling me out on them. I wonder why that is." Ishimaru sighed, shaking his head and trying to hide his relief Tira's jugular-seeking personality had tagged out for the one he could eat least try to reason with.
"Your friend is completely safe. I simply hid her in case she told you she wanted to give me a big, terminal hug when you woke up while I wasn't watching." He said, smiling a little cynically this time.

Tira pouted, "Glooms is silly like that. Can we play when my back isn't hurting so much?"
However, her gaze snapped to the door when a noise seemed to resonate throughout the outside corridor. Hissing? Tira's eyes widened. She only knew one person who hissed...
Eep.
