"Perhaps you're right what I was going to do was...beyond reckless."
Though sometimes reckless is good… thought Ludovigo who had often acted recklessly in his life. …But sometimes not, now thinking of some other times where that behavior put him and his gang in trouble. Yet if they only waited to act safely, they would never have made many scams like they did… But indeed sometimes it was good not to be reckless.
While Ludovigo was thinking, the Hungarian nobleman continued speaking, adressing him directly.
"You see...there's this thing I was taught and it's like a last resort, especially if I have no weapon."
Ludovigo kept looking at the man adressing him, noticing that he was breathing better, well, he seemed so… Maybe he was slightly feeling better?
"It's a 'berserk trance.' Have you ever heard of it? Probably only from viking stories but you see people only think it's getting angry and swing around wildly but its not."
"It’s not?" Asked Ludovigo on a surprised tone.
He didn’t know much of Viking stories, except that there were gods named Odin and Thor. And also that Viking sailed boats and scared people since they were all crazy berserkers, getting angry and swinging around wildly.
But RayLeonardo had now caught the attention of the blond thief. The young man seemed to know much more… and it seemed important…
"It's like when the pat of your body that gives you strength in times of need like adrenaline, and the opposite part that is active while resting and helps heal you. Some researchers and even a few remaining alchemists call this the sympathetic nervous system and the para-sympathetic nervous system, respectively."
"Okay now you lost me…" muttered the blond man who was now confused with those sympathetic and para-sympathetic system things. It’ll probably be some very complicated explanation so maybe he should stop trying to understand it… yet RayLeonardo kept talking.
"These two parts almost NEVER are active at the some time as its opposite. The 'Berserk State',however, forces both to do just that. Unlike people who simply charge in angry without a thought and makes them clumsy and unable to thinks straight, The berserk state is the opposite."
"… Okay! You got me back!" Exclaimed the thief as he probably realized what was the berserk trance. Except he didn’t realize which two parts since he lost it, probably those sympathetic things… but it was the reason why berserk trance was exhaustive and a risky move. Using more of the body than it should. But so they are angry and still think? So to hit and to think are the sympathetic things? thought Ludovigo who kept listening.
RayLeonardo pointed to his skull. "Your mind actually sees things like they've slowed down, …"
Most of the time it’s the contrary for me, my mind slows down, thought Ludovigo as RayLeonardo continued speaking.
"…almost moving through molasses. Your muscle power and ability to react increase immensely, and you can feel almost any pain at all...but it comes at a cost."
He pointed to his heart.
"It puts intense stress on your body and even your mind, especially being in it too long. Also your movements are involuntary…
"Huh…" Ludovigo lifted his hand to ask a question but stopped not wanting to interrupt.
"… and often cant distinguish friend from foe. It will usually last until you or your foe drop dead. If you're in it too long, it can cause you permanent damage, or kill you. Especially in my condition."
Rayleonardo coughed a bit.
"Also it takes large pent up anger or 'woad' under critical and intense situations...or you can use a drug. That's less healthy if you're body is not fit to use it."
He walked out onto the steps
"But i'm sorry for boring you with that, just a little something to let you in on.
You’re not, boring me at all! That’s so interesting! Thought Ludovigo who felt some admiration for the knowledge this man had.
"But let's move on. If I can't beat the wolf, then perhaps I'll have to ask someone about him...as well as the shard. And I know EXACTLY who to ask, and they'd better have answers for me after what happened."
Ludovigo felt he really had a lot of questions to ask RayLeonardo but then the afro haired nobleman looked over at him and smiled.
"Feel like a trip to Rome?"
Ludovigo was surprised once more but then grinned merrily.
"Rome? That’s great! I’ve been sometimes to Rome, it’s a beautiful city! I know some good places as well. But I got some questions… Who, they? And, huh… for the berserk trance, if your moves are involontary, how can you retain your mind? Isn’t it that you lost it? And you’re then swinging around wildly? I thought that you could control where you hit or something since you have your mind, one of the two sympathetic things, but if you hit your friend, you’re not really controlling… And if you kill, not your enemy but someone between? Like a friend or and ally? Will you get out of the trance? And how many times did you use it? You already did?"
Ludovigo then added after a while:
"And also… if we are to travel that far, we really need some food and things. Probably horses as well. I’ll have to gather them then we’ll be ready to go."
