On his quest for revenge Maxi had come to a trading port in India to pay his respects to his friends who had been murdered by grotesque creatures, and renew his vow to avenge them. There he reunited with Kilik and Xianghua, and long-forgotten memories came flooding back. But while Maxi's body was a host to a fragment of the cursed sword and Kilik held a piece of the Dvapara-Yuga, they could not journey together. Thus, Maxi had to make a painful decision to turn his back to his friends and their entreaties, and leave them behind.
As night began to fall, Maxi went to the woods to take shelter from a squall, and as he brooded there in the darkness he felt the sensation that he was being watched by someone.

All bright in the sky without any clouds around, but surrounded by stars, the silver moon was graciously shining, night birds and insects singing all over the woods.
They walked for about two days, without any proper rest, not knowing where they were going. They were making their best to always travel in darkness, for the sun made them feel sluggish, weak and nauseous, burning their pale skin to death. Sometimes, being a malfested wasn't as great as he could have thought. Or at least, not like how it used to be, some years ago. How many time has passed since he got infected? 4 years? 6 years? His mind wasn't focusing there anymore...
Gazing at the moon, through his ash blonde bangs, Raphael sighed, his crimson eyes as bright as the finest blood. It's been one month that she disappeared... or even maybe two, he didn't remember how many time has passed since then. He missed her terribly... his beloved daughter, his little butterfly of the night. Where could she be? She could be anywhere in this wretched world!
His head was hurting him, as well as all of his muscles due to the tiredness and to add an even more "great" feeling, he was thirsty. These last days, Raphael wasn't feeding himself very well, his mind too worried about Amy, only wanting to search until he found her. Of course, he won't fall ill on purpose, but since the attack of this atrocious creature that claimed to be Soul Edge and that his baby got kidnapped by this crazy girl, Tira, the vampire couldn't sleep very well, getting horrible nightmares every time he fell asleep, seeing the same scenes, over and over...
Was she alright? What if something happened to her? What if she got hurt?
"Amy... please... be safe...", whispered the Frenchman not too loud so that only himself could hear his own words.
Jacqueline, his servant, was right behind him, in more or less the same condition. She was as thirsty as him, but they couldn't allow themselves to stop like this. Raphael didn't speak very much to her. Her voice was rather annoying sometimes and it only irritated him, but the redhead young woman was the only one he could trust so far and she was still some good company...That, he never told her, of course, even though he asked her to come with him, probably for not being alone this time...
Raphael suddenly stopped walking, putting his gloved hand in front of his servant to make her stop as well, feeling another presence nearby. And it wasn't anything usual. Something evil was part of it; the essence of Soul Edge?
Looking at Jacqueline, he pointed at his ear as if to tell her to listen to the cracking branches and steps that were coming more evident as seconds passed. He then gestured her with a move of his head to go to the left as he will take the right, to circle their prey.
Raphael couldn't tell himself, but this aura always had been very attractive to his mind, and woke him up quite well, getting his thirst even more greedy. Silently unsheathing his malicious and loyal rapier, Flambert, a light smile crossed his death gray lips, his dark eyebrows frowned a bit, giving him this usual evil and predator look.
Tonight, they will hunt! Tonight, he will draw blood to satisfy himself...

Jacqueline was silently following her master, not really speaking since she didn’t want to annoy Raphael. He had enough troubles like this… It must be so hard to have lost his child…
And they probably have lost her forever now… That she wouldn’t tell Raphael but since Amy had been captured and probably taken to Ostrhreinsburg and they didn’t find her there, Jacqueline had supposed the young girl must have been killed. Probably in a cruel and horrible way… The Soul Edge followers were quite cruels… Malfested had some cruel instincts but those willingly following Soul Edge were real monsters.
Yet Raphael seemed to cling to the idea that his beloved daughter was alive so Jacqueline did not want to crush his hopes, sadden him even more, and be punished… So she always tried to look positive on Amy’s fate.
But she pitied her master for his hopeless search and she was sad for her young mistress who passed away even if she never spoke very much to Amy or mostly Amy never spoke very much to her. Jacqueline had tried many times in fact to speak with Amy since the maid was very talkative but the young girl always dismissed her, saying she wanted to be alone. So Jacqueline didn't know her young mistress very much.
Yet she pitied her master and the young mistress for their misfortune. But she also pitied herself since she was thirsty since a while and Raphael kept insisting to keep searching for Amy so as much as him, she wasn’t feeding herself very well and wasn’t sleeping much either.
As she was thinking about her bloodthirst and her tiredness, she almost didn’t see Raphael’s hand ordering her to stop. But just before she slammed on it, she suddenly noticed and stopped.
Keeping still, she then also heard the sounds… someone was coming… The vampire servant also felt the slight evil emanation and wondered what it was. Who was coming? She slightly got scared at the thought they could meet any Soul Edge follower maybe some dangerous monster or even Soul Edge himself.
But she also felt very thirsty and maybe that creature was not that terrible. Beside whatever it was, she would stay by her master's side. And if they could slay that creature and take some blood from it, it would be great! Yet she hoped there would be enough blood for her after Raphael would drink… Maybe there was two people or more? No, with the noise the steps were making there was only one. But maybe there would be enough blood for both of them… But first they had to vanquish that being.
Raphael then gestured her to go to the left so they could take that mysterious someone by surprise and Jacqueline quickly went where her master ordered. She was good for being stealthy and silent… when she was keeping her mouth shut, of course. She did have some difficultes to keep quiet with her mouth for long periods of time and they did travel in silence for so long… But now was not the time to speak… but to kill… Holding her dual kodachis in her hands, she was ready to fight. As she was still hiding, she got a glimpse of the prey: a man, dressed in white... He seemed elegant, nice clothes… Nice neck…

Maxi rose to his feet. The shard of Soul Edge inside his body began to react to whoever or whatever was there. Though the dark powers of the shard were evil, in his training with Edge Master, the old man taught Maxi how to live with the shard of the cursed sword he carried within him. In time, Maxi managed to suppress its foul influence and used it's powers in battle to give him the upper hand.
But it also gave him many other benefiets in battle. His body aged at a slow rate, he could heal faster than average men, and of course there was heightened sensitivity. Right now he could feel the dark, evil energy pouring heavily off of whatever was lurking in the shadows. Whoever it was had also became tainted by the cursed sword somehow... In fact, the very aura the creature gave off told him that they weren't even human anymore.
But then he caught wind of another presence as he heard the lightest shuffle of leaves in the woods. Were there two persons? The engery from this person seemed weaker somehow.
Still, Maxi felt a growing sense of hostility pulse through his limbs. And he tightened his grip on Soryruju in his palms.
What did they want? A fight? Hehe, bring it on. But something told Maxi that if these people were malfested then they would probably want his shard of soul edge. The one inside his body...Or did they want something else?
Maxi readied his nunchaku, shifted into his stance and concentrated, he sensed that the stronger creature was lurking somewhere infront of him, and the other was approaching his back side. He searched the shadows in front of him. The woods were dark, but the dim glow of the full moon illuminated the darkness somewhat. He peered close enough and saw the silhouette of a male figure. But mostly he saw glowing red eyes.... Who the hell was this guy?
Maxi spoke, irritation thick in his voice. He was growing tired of the games. ''You might as well come out, I know your there. And tell your partner to come out too. Were you really planning on taking me by surprise? Pathetic.''

The more the Soul Edge presence approached, the more Raphael felt his thirst getting more aggressive. Clenching his teeth, he waited, until he could see him... Being used to the night made his vision more practical and he could see that the presence was a man, finely dressed in white with some fur and quite a hairstyle...
As the man spoke, Raphael wasn't surprised that he knew they were there.... He had probably felt their presence since he also had the essence in him. However, he didn't seem in the same state as himself and Jacqueline were. He didn't look monstrous at all. In fact, by the tone of his cocky voice, he did seem to be able to handle himself pretty well... As this last one told them to go out, Raphael snarled behind his teeth, swallowing a beastly growl that he was usually making when he was getting irritated.
But he wasn't. He was simply very annoyed and even more since his plan didn't work quite well to his tastes. Of course it didn't work, but Raphael simply checked if his loyal servant was in the way. She seemed to stay hidden, ignoring the words of the man. She was far more better than him to hide and this was exactly what he needed!
"Curse it...", said the vampire as he got out of the dark foliage, showing himself in the light of the moon, without any regret. His skin was as pale as a ghost and his red eyes glowed like a fire, the silver bats and chains of his armors and ornament clinging in a luxury metallic sound, a bit like heavy keys.
"Well well, it looks like you're not the type to enjoy hide and seek, am I right?", asked the Frenchman with a small touch of sarcasm, keeping a certain distance with the man as he dusted his left sleeve with his right arm.
"And what is a person like you doing around here, all alone in the dark?", continued the Raphael.
Jacqueline wasn't at the same place now, he could feel that she moved and did so quite subtly. Even if he could sense her, the Dark Lord couldn't exactly tell where she was and so it was the same for that guy.
All he had to do was to keep their prey busy so she could take him by surprise.
It still wasn't the time to draw the weapons, but perhaps it will be soon, all depending on how this man interacts. But just in case, Raphael sheathed his rapier, showing that he wasn't searching for a fight.
"Hmph, judging by what I see, you don't look like any of these wretched creatures. What are you exactly?"
Not that he was caring that much, but in the point of view of Sorel, this man was curious. Maybe he only had something with him that was emanating an evil energy? And if so, it was deeply calling...
Being quite tired and starving for blood, nothing would really be at his advantage at the moment. Plus, to make things even more "lucky", this man looked like he wouldn't be an easy person to deal with... Cursing himself, Raphael thought that it would have been more caring to take some sleep. But closing an eye without being haunted by images of Amy in fearsome danger simply was impossible.
"She might have climbed in a tree. If that's so, she knows when she has to act. I have to make this imbecile move so that she could give him the strike. Or else, if she could get his attention, I could give my turn to it!", thought Raphael, not looking anywhere but the traveler that was facing him.

''You might as well come out, I know your there. And tell your partner to come out too. Were you really planning on taking me by surprise? Pathetic.''
Jacqueline was surprised that the man felt their presence. Yet she knew that if he asked them to come out it may be because he didn’t really know where they were…
But Raphael then showed himself to the man. Jacqueline didn’t know if she should do the same or not but she thought she should wait for some signal from her master to show herself. She knew her master’s techniques so there was still chances that the man didn’t know where she was even if he felt her presence. But she would have to act fast.
Yet her master was now speaking with the man, maybe they could get along but it was more likely that Raphael was probably trying to get his attention so she should jump on the prey as soon as she could. Beside she wanted to jump on him; he was smelling so good… Soul Edge… She wanted to drink his blood… tasty blood… So she moved in a stealthy way toward him. Raphael continued speaking.
"Hmph, judging by what I see, you don't look like any of these wretched creatures. What are you exactly?"
Yeah what are you? Silently wondered Jacqueline as well. But she knew he was tasty blood… Even if she was curious as well, the rest didn’t really matter… She was obsessed with blood.
But as she quickly moved toward her prey, a thought suddenly hit her: What if he knew about mademoiselle Amy? He was some kind of malfested maybe he worked for Soul Edge… He does have more chances to know something than a normal human… and Raphael and her were a little out of options…
Jacqueline quickly ran toward Maxi and tried to thrust one of her kodachi into his back but not in his heart. Only to injure him, not kill him. For now.
"You dirty abductor! Tell us where the young mistress is!" screamed the vampire as she thrust her blade toward the Japanese man.
Jacqueline really wanted to drink that man’s blood but the thought he may know something about Amy suddenly embarrassed her and she would feel guilty to not do everything to help her master find his daughter. She also realized she may have some hopes like Raphael as well since she did believe that man may have some informations… Yes, maybe Amy was still alive… It felt good to have hopes suddenly… Raphael who was by far more affected by Amy’s disappearance must really survive on those hopes… Without them the protective and worried father would probably die, thought his maid. So if that man knew something, it would be great, if he didn't... His blood would be great.

As soon and Jacqueline shrieked out her demand, Maxi quickly rolled out of the way to the side away from her sneak attack. As he finished rolling, he quickly gets back on his feet and readies Soryruju.
"Hey, hey. You better watch it... besides, I have no idea what you are talking about. You think I'm an abductor? You're out of your mind if you think that."
He then turns to Raphael to respond to his earlier query, his eyes darted at him, but also keeping his senses aware from the ambusher.
"As for who am I? All you need to know is I'm the guy who's going to kick your pale ass."

Things went on another way as immediately as Jacqueline jumped off her hidden spot and tried to attack the man that evaded himself easily from her. While thinking about it, this wasn't really surprising. The stranger looked strong and quick, but Raphael kept his cool blood. He fought a lot of people and usually never lost. His blade had no equal and even if he didn't want to fight, this dark haired man brought his nerves at a certain point. Especially to make him hungry enough to feed from him.
His minion called the man an abductor. He was connected to Soul Edge. Maybe he knew? Maybe it could be a clue?
Then, Raphael's eyes widened at Maxi's words. How dare he being so impolite?! Clenching his teeth, a low growl escaped from his lips, his red eyes glowing dangerously. He didn't want to fight, but being provoked by stupid people always was something that got the vampire out of his mind and always putted him to the urge to make them shut their trap. Competitive? Low temper? Maybe a bit of both, something he had difficulties to control since he was tainted from the Evil Seed. The want to sleep wasn't helping either.
"That won't happen if I wash out your dirty mouth with your own blood!"
As soon as he mentioned it, Raphael disappeared in a dark red mist and reappeared right in front of the Asian warrior, about a meter away. With a blink of an eye, he swiftly slashed Flambert at him; the silver blade dangerously whipped the air, in an attempt to cut his throat to finish it immediately, so that they would feed on his strong blood that they could smell through his skin's pores.
He didn't care if he knew something about Amy anymore. He was tired, irritated and hungry...

Jacqueline’s eyes widened as well and she let go an outraged gasp as Maxi answered with disrespect to her master. Then Raphael disappeared and appeared in front of Maxi, trying to slash his throat so Jacqueline also launched at Maxi once more, trying to slash his legs, hoping he would fall victim to one of their attacks while trying to evade.
"How dare you? Show some respect to the master! Maybe you're not the abductor but a quite crude man!"

Maxi had to be careful because the two of them suddenly tried to attack at different sides of him. He waited until Jacqueline got close to his feet and exclaimed with a "WACHAA!" He does a quick backflip off the ground, his boots knocking away from the rapier's intended path and his hands on Jacqueline's back. He then pushes off of her back and flips away from the two to keep their distance. He then readies his nunchuku again to plan his next attack.
"Showing respect to the likes of you? You're so full of it."
But then suddenly, footsteps start to echo. Maxi's eyes widened and he paused as turned around to see who was coming their way. Out of the darkness of the night came an old man covered in head to toe with white with blue bandages and tattoos. The old man stood next to Maxi and spoke.
"Causing trouble again?"
"Master? What are you doing here?"
"I came to check up on you, but I can see you're doing fine for the time being, but must you challenge everyone?"
"But Master, they're armed and malfested, I can't just sit idly by."
"I already noticed, but at least try to learn some diplomacy. Maybe they just don't want to cause any trouble in the first place. Why don't you take a break."
Maxi does not feel like arguing with Edge Master, and put his nunchuku away on his belt. He then turns to the two of them and points.
"Consider yourselves lucky."
He then turns around in a huff and leaves the port into the night. Edge Master then turns back to the two of them and crosses his arms.
"So what brings you two here? It's quite clear that you two are not from here."

The rude Asian man moved pretty quickly, which stunned Raphael a little who thought himself that his previous attack was rather fast. But the sun wasn't helping so maybe he got slower than he expected himself.
Jacqueline knew how the plan worked and tried as well to attack at the same time, but both the pale malfested missed and their prey simply rolled away. They were two. Even tired, how could they manage to miss like this?!
The fight was about to continue as Raphael growled of anger, but his mind focused somewhere else as other footsteps entered the place. A tall man appeared behind the younger one. With his long white beard and wrinkles, the man looked old and very sage. But his aura was strong and this didn't please Sorel very much, so he remained calm, his jaw still clenched. He gestured his minion to come by his side, so that she would be safer, in case something would happen. She was rather near these men...
As the two of them spoke together, the Frenchman's eyebrows narrowed of curiosity by this random man, before his expression finally relaxed a bit. Was he lecturing the dark-haired man? The rapier holder couldn't help but to have a small smile at this. Ah, impetuous, people...
Finally, Maxi leaved and the blonde rolled his eyes at his last words before looking the old man. Could he really trust him? Raphael didn't trust anybody at all, except himself. So he will have to play carefully...
"We're not.", he simply said, looking away for a moment, before looking again at the stranger, feeling uneasy by what was emanating from him. It was pure... almost too pure for a malfested of Raphael's kind...
"Who are you...?", asked the vampire, ignoring the first question of the white-bearded man, not trusting him.

With the backflip Maxi did using the vampire maid’s back, Jacqueline fell down in the dust.
"Ah!"
Before she could even get up, Maxi said :
"Showing respect to the likes of you? You're so full of it." Still in the dust, Jacqueline also growled like her master and showed her fangs as she was now really angry by that man's insult. That man deserved to suffer! But before she could even get up, she suddenly heard someone coming. It seemed Raphael also heard it as he looked that way so Jacqueline also turned her head toward the source of the sound. She was surprised to see an old man yet he didn’t seem like a frail old man but seemed rather muscular and assured of himself. His tatoos also showed he wasn’t an ordinary old man. Maybe a sailor? They were nearthe port... But what was more stunning was that aura of wisdom around him yet that aura was also scary for the malfested maid and she gazed nervously at Raphael to see what to do. Then noticing her vampire master was gesturing for her, she quickly got up and ran to his side then stared at the old man who now adressed the black haired man.
"Causing trouble again?"
Jacqueline was surprised he didn’t see her and Raphael as the troublemakers.
"Master? What are you doing here?"
"I came to check up on you, but I can see you're doing fine for the time being, but must you challenge everyone?"
"But Master, they're armed and malfested, I can't just sit idly by."
You’re malfested as well, don’t think you’re so perfect…thought the vampire minion who was still feeling the shard Maxi had inside of him without knowing exactly what it was but it looked like malfestation...
"I already noticed, but at least try to learn some diplomacy. Maybe they just don't want to cause any trouble in the first place. Why don't you take a break."
Jacqueline was surprised once more by the old man’s answer. He really was thinking they could be innocent! That was so pleasing! Everybody jumped on them when they knew what they were… Even when they were not doing anything bad. She then gazed toward her master to see his reaction : He seemed pleased as well… But Jacqueline felt some shame: Even if she was glad somehow it could end well, they were ready to drink that man’s blood in fact… and they were still thirsty… But that old man… not only did he seemed wise and had taken their defence but there was also that aura around him, that power Jacqueline felt and could not really identify, scaring the maid but also forcing respect. The black haired man then pointed at them and said :
"Consider yourselves lucky."
Jacqueline was surprise and thought : What? The nerve! We would have beaten you in no time, you show off! Poser! But once more the old man’s presence inclined her to act more politely and she said nothing of her outraged thoughts as she brushed the dust from her dress, letting Maxi go away.
So what brings you two here? It's quite clear that you two are not from here.
Jacqueline then looked at Raphael once more for the answer. He was the master, he was the one who would explain… "We're not.", simply said her master while looking away for a moment, before looking again at the stranger and asking :"Who are you...?"
Jacqueline kept eying the old man without a word while having mixed feelings. But she knew she didn't want to attack him if not forced to yet she stayed on her guards and ready to protect her master if she needed to. Raphael didn't seem to know if he could trust that man either... Yet Jacqueline wondered if a man that powerful would know about mademoiselle Amy, yet maybe they should let him present himself first... After all that was the polite thing to do...

Edge Master furrowed his brow as the Frenchman dodged his initial question. If he did not answer, then he figured they might be up to something. He figured better proceed with caution from here on out, especially since he was dealing with two malfested. Nevertheless, he brought his right hand up to to his mouth and cleared his throat to answer his question.
"I am Edge Master and may I ask who are you two?"
He though, for a man who acts like a noble, he sure does not act like one if he did not address himself first when asking who he was.

Raphael nodded at the name but still felt uneasy. This man didn't look like an impostor and he was special. Edge Master? What kind of name was this? Though, he didn't ask any question about it and finally sheathe his rapier.
The blonde man wasn't sure if this person was human after all, which is why he didn't want to go in many details. His purity still filling the air made him feel almost sick on the inside. However, this man seemed more trust worthy than the previous one.
"I am Raphael Sorel and here is Jacqueline, my servant.", he simply answered as he looked at Jacqueline while he presented her. She was his only servant with him, but also mostly like his traveling companion as well. She could get the privilege to be presented, something that Raphael didn't do in the past when he had the full trio of Auguste, Jacqueline and Marienbard with him. He had judged it wasn't that important at all to know who they were.
Since the disappearance of Amy, there wasn't anybody he could trust, until he could judge it safe to ask. This man didn't seem like he wanted to attack them. He didn't even pass them as guilty or anything else. Raphael was still uncertain... but as he thought of Amy that could be anywhere, in desperate need of help, the feeling of stress got him again and it was certain that he wouldn't find her only by himself, without any clue...
Except if this man knew something about Soul Edge... He looked like he knew many things. Also, the fact that the other man whom he didn't know his name seemed like his student, this last one was malfested, while Edge Master wasn't. At least, this was a proof that malfested or not, he wasn't like all of these wretched humans that chased anything that spoke out of normality. This fact was at least encouraging.
Finally, Raphael couldn't hold his silence forever. With a deep sigh, he finally spoke:
"Pardon my rudeness, my good Sir, but we are in fact travelling the world. I lost my daughter by the hands of Soul Edge and a mad girl, working for it. I have no idea where she could be, nor the sword, nor that creature that claimed to be the sword itself..."
As he was speaking about it, the vampire tightened his left fist, as he felt his own blood boiling with rage, but also a chill running down his spine. He didn't want to think about it, didn't want to remember... But he contained everything and all of his murder thoughts kept running to the surface. Raphael looked at Edge Master and seemed more calm than angry. The blood of this man wasn't an option, there was no way...
"We were hoping... that you, maybe, could at least know something about the sword? Perhaps its location or anything about the girl that works for it?", asked the Frenchman as he looked to his side.
This man was giving him a strange impression, as if he had the obligation to show him his full respect and almost kneel in front of him. He hated it and this, he won't do it. Of course he won't.

"I am Edge Master and may I ask who are you two?"
Edgemaster? What does that means? You make weapons? wondered Jacqueline like Raphael was also wondering but she didn't dare ask either. Yet he was a master so it confirmed his importance... Then her own master spoke.
"I am Raphael Sorel and here is Jacqueline, my servant.", he simply answered as he looked at Jacqueline while he presented her.
Jacqueline got surprised as Raphael presented her and quickly made a curtsy to the old man while blushing. She was really pleased to be worthy of presentation by her master and to that man who seemed important.
"Enchantée monsieur"
Then after a deep sigh, Raphael spoke again:
"Pardon my rudeness, my good Sir, but we are in fact travelling the world. I lost my daughter by the hands of Soul Edge and a mad girl, working for it. I have no idea where she could be, nor the sword, nor that creature that claimed to be the sword itself..."
Jacqueline gazed sadly at her master while he was speaking about Amy. She did sometimes wonder if Raphael had become less distant with her during the trip but she still wasn't certain if it was only a feeling but she still feared him while also feeling some attachment toward him, mostly since he lost his daughter... She felt really sad for him. And for Amy. Jacqueline had not seen the cursed sword in that skeletal incarnation that Raphael saw nor that crazy girl who got away with Amy since she just came back when Raphael was going out of the mansion in hurry and distress over the loss of his beloved daughter so she always wondered what they were looking like. Each times Raphael was talking about it she tried to imagine them.
"We were hoping... that you, maybe, could at least know something about the sword? Perhaps its location or anything about the girl that works for it?", asked the Frenchman as he looked to his side.
