The demon was busy clawing at the samurai it just pounced on and couldn't evade the hit on its flank. It once more made those strange bird sound in pain while the snake tail quickly lashed at Durante, trying to bite him again.

The snake got him in the arm as he drew his sword back from the thrust. To put an end to the snake nuisance, Durante aims for the wound he caused at the tail earlier and swiftly swings his sword at said wound in attempt to completely cut it off. If it does succeed, he hopes that the snake head does not move independently from the main body.

Durante's strike connects with the tail and the snake is cut, its head part falling down on the ground and shaking in fury for a while until it disappears into a small black cloud.
Meanwhile the demon itself turned around and swiftly jumped on Durante.

Durante reflexively sidesteps from the pounce. He then tries another thrust but this time at the beast's thigh. If it connects then he plans to follow it up with pulling it out while it tears against it's muscle in attempt to hinder it's movement.

The demon received the thrust right into its thigh as it landed then the following action went as Durante had planned: Its muscle leg ripped, the beast fell down on its hind and tumbled on the ground.
But as it rolled on the ground. leaving a trail of blood behind, the demon suddenly disappeared in a black cloud that went toward the forest.

Durante thought about giving chase, but in the moment that it turned into a black cloud, he decided against it since it would be much harder to find him, let alone finish the job. He swung his blade to get rid of the excess blood and then sheathed his weapon. He then looked at the survivors and the camp from where he stood. "Is everyone okay?" He was not really expecting a positive answer given the string of corpses lying about.

One of the samurai painfully got up and told him as Durante expected:
"Not really. But arigato for your help. Many died because of the demon and many are wounded. We were training not far when we heard the screams of the villagers. So we came. But a nue is quite hard to beat..."
Looking around the forest, he continued.
"The demon will certainly come back in some times..."
He looked at Durante.
"Don't worry, it won't come back already. Only in some hours maybe days, if it even decided to came back... There is quite a lot of demons around this place since we are near sacred Mount Fuji"
His gaze then turned into and inquisitive one.
"What are you doing around those sacred ground? You're searching for something?"

Given the destruction the nue caused, Durante was a bit worried when the samurai mentioned that the demon will be coming back sometime soon.
"But when it comes back, will you be ready to fight it?"
He resumes looking around the camp's damages from where he stood until the samurai asked about his presence. He turned his head back towards him.
"I'm here because I'm searching for a rare or legendary katana to acquire, such as those forged by Masamune or Kanemitsu."

The samurai thought for a moment. “A rare or legendary katana… Well, I do know some people who have such weapons yet they must be going west now… searching for another legendary sword… I may know someone who has a sword made by Masamune himself… By the way, I have a riddle for you. Masamune and his student both made some very fine katana. Very proud about his accomplishment, the student challenged his master to see which blade was better. They both suspended the blades over a small creek with the cutting edge in the current. The student’s blade cut everything that went its way: fish, leaves, branches… even air that blew by. The student was very proud of his work even more when he looked at his master’s blade: As they passed, not a leaf was cut, not a fish either, nothing. So the student began to laugh at his master saying his own blade was far better. Do you agree? If so, why? And if not, why also?”

After the first encounter, Yoshimitsu decided to watch the newcomers from afar, seeing if they were mischief-makers or not. When he saw their battle with the nue, he could assume that they had at least some honorable motives.
He threw a heavy cloak over his form, taking off the helmet (but not the mask) and covering his face with a wide-brimmed straw hat: now he looked like a normal villager and his coming and going could not be marked.
Yoku atta. he greeted. I see that you have done battle. Do you require assistance?

Durante smirked under his helmet at this riddle as he was quite familiar with the tale of Masamune and Muramasa. Even if the two actually lived in different time periods, it still carries an important moral. He responded with confidence.
"I disagree. The reason being was the student's sword indiscriminately kills anything in it's path, regardless if something was good or bad. Masamune's blade does not cause unneeded bloodshed since does not kill the innocent."
Right after he responded, he turned to the masked individual.
"Oh, hello sir. The beast has fled for now. As for assistance, I think the villagers will be more than willing to receive your help than I."

The samurai smiled and said:
"I like your answer, it is the right one. So I'll tell you that the general of the training ground has a sword made by Masamune and I think his son has one as well. They collect weapons, so maybe you could try to bargain with them to have one. But for now, I was wondering if you would like to help us with the wounded? And you may need some care too."
The samurai adressed the villager near them and says with a smile also:
"Everything is alright for the moment. The nue has been chased away. There was some wounded and dead but do not fear, we will be near if the beast comes back. Now we will take care of the injured."

Durante nods, "Thank you for your help and yes, I will help you tend to the injured and then myself. Can you lead me to where you store your medical supplies?" Now that the guy brought up his injures, I thinks that he needs to set some time repairing some parts of his armor too.

The samurai showed where the wounded were gathering. "You can get some care there or just take some things to treat yourself."

Durante gets lead to the wounded and looks at where the medical supplies are. He then turns to the samurai, "Thank you again for your help." He heads to the storage room and gathers some bandages and ointments in his arms. He then jogs back to the wounded and starts tending to their injuries.
Once he finishes patching them up, he moves to another side of the camp to tend to his own injures. He only takes off his cuirass and gauntlets and lifts up his gambeson to inspect the damage. From the looks of it, he got some bruises from the nue hitting him down, but none of the skin was cut thanks to the armor. He starts pressing his body for bones to see if anything was broken and he feels like one of his ribs was a bit fractured. He reflexively grunts in pain and sighs. He starts putting ointment on his injuries, but just wraps a bandage on where his fracture was.
Durante looks at his armor and sighs. While the armor protected him, the demon caused a lot of scratches and dents. It seems like it's going to take a bit of work to get it repaired again. He quickly starts looking around to see if there is a forge anywhere.
